Heidelberg to launch PM74 at IPP8 Nov24 For the last two years, Heidelberg has been showing a new series of Printmaster sheetfed presses that incorporate a new design with several innovations for markets that do not warrant full digital automation. The Printmaster 74 series occupy a smaller footprint by integrating the low-pile delivery into the main chassis and use other innovations in press controls that are cheaper and simpler to operate and maintain than the highly automated Speedmaster series. Heidelberg says that, "A new operational concept, automation where needed and clever manual solutions make the PM 74 user-friendly." The Printmaster 74 4-colour configuration will have its Indian launch at a presentation by Andreas Sommer of Heidelberg Asia Pacific at the opening day evening dinner function of the IPP8 conference on December 6, in New Delhi. The Printmaster series are seen as a cost effective alternative to buying either the premium multicolour fully automated presses or a second-hand press. Thus with the Printmaster series, Heidelberg seems to be segmenting the sheetfed market with presses at several levels of sophistication and pricing. Heidelberg began by manufacturing the Printmaster 74 series only in single and double colour configurations. Now the Printmaster 74 series in 4-colour configuration will be launched in India on the evening of the opening day of the IPP8 conference in New Delhi. The Printmaster 74 format is 50 x 70 cm with the largest sheet size 530 mm x 740 mm (20 7 /8" x 29 1 /8"). The smallest sheet in straight-printing mode is 210 x 280 mm (8 1 /4"x 11") and the smallest sheet in perfecting mode is 300 x 280 mm (11 3 /4"x 11"). Stock thicknesses from 0.03-0.6 mm can be run at a maximum press speed of 12,000 sheets per hour. The launch will take place at the cocktails and dinner on the evening of December 6 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. All IPP8 conference participants are invited to attend the launch. Laurel Brunner to be moderator for IPP8 There is a change as far as our previous announcements
for this year's conference as far as the moderator's position. Lawrence
Wallis who had agreed to moderate for the fifth time has had to withdraw
for personal reasons. Laurel Brunner, the European Correspondent of the
Seybold Report will take up the moderator's chair. Conference attendees
from IPP7 will remember that Brunner took part in last year's conference
in several panels and presentations including one that discussed the methodology
of evaluating high-end scanners based on her and Paul Lindstrom's work
for Pixel Perfect II. Brunner also moderated one of the sessions. Paul
Lindstrom of AGI Publications and Malmö University will also be here for
IPP8 and make presentations on Digital Photography and Colour Management.
